Hike for Hope: India and Nepal
Date: March / April 2010
Adventure: Trekking Challenge

This is truly an amazing opportunity for World Vision supporters to get out of your comfort zone, visit two wonderful countries, test your stamina, and raise awareness and funds for a community in need in India.

Once again, World Vision is partnering with Raw Travel (part of the Intrepid Travel group) to bring you this incredible adventure. It will be action-packed, life-changing and not for the fainthearted.

You will experience India in a way few tourists do, trek among Nepal’s famed mountain peaks, visit the vibrant cities of Kathmandu & Calcutta, and see for yourself the difference your support for World Vision is making when you visit the Dumaria community in India.

For a full, detailed itinerary visit Raw Challenges

All in a good cause

Your challenge starts well before you leave, as this is the time to raise money to help fund school facilities and equipment for the children of Dumaria, India. And a day visit to Dumaria is one of the most memorable legs of the trip.

The Dumaria community has significant hurdles to overcome. Poor soil, seed quality and irrigation, combined with lack of credit facilities to improve agricultural production contribute to a chronic food shortage. This forces villagers to migrate to the city and often work in dangerous and unhealthy conditions. Rural villages in the area also lack adequate educational facilities, to help build a future for local children.

You will be able to see first-hand the difference your support of World Vision is making in the lives of Indians in Dumaria. Your fundraising dollars will help restore educational facilities and pay for school equipment such as text books, toilet facilities, desks and chairs for the classrooms, sport and art equipment, clean drinking water facilities, and bicycles so children can safely commute to school.

The Hike for Hope Charity Challenge will be incredibly rewarding, both physically as you scale the majestic mountains of Nepal; and emotionally, as you raise serious funds for the community of Dumaria.

This challenge is open to ongoing World Vision supporters - don’t miss this amazing adventure!

Country: Tanzania
Date: February 2009
Adventure: Trekking Challenge

This challenge discovered the heart of East Africa and included a climb to the top of Mt Kilimajaro, Africa’s highest peak! Participants came face to face with Maasai communities and saw first-hand World Vision’s work and what a difference it makes.

"The trip to Tanzania was super amazing; a wonderful experience that I will never forget. The entire group were amazing. I still think about everyone and smile, including the guides who were the perfect mixture of professionalism and friendliness. This was an experience I will always treasure and remember." Lizzie

“What an amazing and memorable trip. It was an awesome group of people to be doing the World Vision Charity Challenge with.” Hannah

“Once in a lifetime memories to have forever.” Julie

“The WV Kilimanjaro Charity Challenge has been a truly heart-warming experience. Meeting our sponsored child and his family was definitely a highlight. Friends and neighbours were also there to welcome us and when he came home from school he ran and hugged us both. The family had gone to a lot of trouble to make us feel welcome. “ Tanya

“I feel very humble being part of this wonderful experience, well done World Vision and fellow sponsors.” Phil

Participants once again rallied together and raised funds for a desperately needed shallow well that would go on to benefit thousands of people. Seeing both the need and the hope in the community of Magugu was a deeply moving experience for all those involved.

Country: Cambodia
Date: November 2008
Adventure: Cycling Challenge

The Cambodia Cycle Challenge got off the beaten track through vibrant heartland and villages, exploring Angkor Wat and a World Vision supported community all while cycling an impressive 550km.

“What an amazing experience!… I can’t believe how far we cycled. I think it was way more achievable having the encouragement of our awesome group and leaders. Can’t wait to do something like this again!” Aleece

“A great trip, great company and extremely well organised. This trip will be remembered and talked about for years to come.” Dave

“We did it – 500 odd km of pain, suffering and anguish on the back of a bike! But despite that, we did something to ease a bit of the pain, suffering and anguish of the people in Koh Andaet.” Kyle

The highlight of this memorable challenge? The knowledge that a community in desperate need of funding for safe water had received serious funds from a bunch of kiwis committed to bringing about change.
